A friend of mine passed away and his wife gave me his vintage 1966 tiller. It runs but will not power through hard soil. It has minimal compression so I would like to upgrade the engine to an OHV engine and take advantage of newer engine technology and this heavy duty Senator tiller. Can anyone suggest a plug and play engine replacement? I would buy an new tiller but they are so cheaply made until you spend upwards of $2K.

Thanks,

Jayson

Not familiar with the Senator tiller, but I have re-powered other tillers with the Briggs 9.0 gross torque slant-cylinder engine (They quit putting the hp. on the tag when they got sued) on other make tillers and it worked fine. On one of them, I did have to extend the frame forward a bit so there was no interference between the gearbox and the engine.

I installed a 10hp B&S on my Troybilt tiller to replace the 6hp Tecumseh. I sold the Tecumseh for $60.00. I still till my garden with it. I also installed new tines and seals. Hal

There's a flashback - dad had a Senator tiller. They look an awful lot like Western Auto tillers.

The old white B&S engine did the same on ours so we pit a new one on. It was a direct fit. That was in the late 80's. I know the overhead units
have the same fit as those so you should be able to just put a new one right on. Go to Small Engine Warehouse and put in your engine info -
they will tell you what will be a direct fit.
