Hi,

I broke the flywheel retaining bolt when installing the flywheel after oil seal replacement. It is on a Simplicity tractor with a Kohler KT17S spec.24305.
It looks like there are fine and coarse threads. Fine threads for the first inch or so and coarse threads for about 3/8" closest to the head of the bolt.
Is this part available? Anyone know the Kohler number? Can anything else be used like fine thread only? What is the correct torque?

Thanks,
Mike

According to the Kohler parts manual, the bolt is a 3/8 24 by 1 1/4. I would use a grade 5 bolt.
According to the Kohler service manual, the torque is 40 ft lbs.

If correct torque is 40 ft/lb, bolt better be a Grade 8.

To the OP... Likely the "coarse" threads you are seeing near the bolt head is when the bolt stretched before it broke.

Thanks
I got a grade 8 bolt with split washer and torqued it to 40 ft.lbs.
