Thought I would post a recent picture of a Cub 1450 that I have been working on. Got the engine running on gas yesterday (needs a little ether coaxing still.)

The previous owner used this 1450 as the farm mowing tractor for many years. From what he told me he had recently had the engine rebuilt when the front PTO burned up and broke so he put it in the shed and got a new mower tractor. Well many years later I bought it from him and today it purrs again.

The carburetor had fuel still in the bowl that was green and foul. It took a hand scrubbing and three trips through the sonic parts washer to get the carb squeaky clean. I added the rear sleeve hitch and eventually intend to plow and cultivate a garden patch with it.

You will find that there are a couple of carbs that go on cadets. Mine has a carter on it. Old 40 and 50 chevy truck had carters.

What size are those front tires? I have been thinking of putting 3 rib tires like that on one of mine. I have the wide ones now and they slide on anything slippery. I have a set of the narrower rims.

These are great, had one for years. A couple of tips ... make sure your float assembly is %100 and adjusted correctly. I would get a new float valve or just get a rebuild kit. Make sure that it has a fuel shutoff valve and get into the habit of running the gas out before putting to bed. The Quietline series like to shake the muffler housings apart on the top-front of the motor. They are only cheap pot metal. I put additional bracing on mine too help keep it from cracking.

I have one of those and I love it. I need to strip the rear fenders off of it like yours it right now and fix the gasket the goes between the hydrostat and the transmission. It seems most leak in that location and I would check yours carefully before putting it back together. Save you the time of tearing it back apart in a couple months.

How expensive was the replacement PTO clutch?

Here are a few more pictures to include the front tire size.

The float was a lost cause. We have another cub engine in the shed that is a few models older than the 1450's so I swapped the floats from the two. Works good now.

Also, when test running it the plastic fan that cools the hydro flew apart. I'm not sure if it was old and brittle or whether it hit something in there. Its crammed pretty tight in there but seems to have clearance.

The front PTO has not been replaced yet so I do not know what the cost is for it.

Do they make steel versions of the exhaust shield? Mine has the typical cracks and breaks and will need to be replaced.

Took the muffler and shield out today to clean out the mouse nest that is around the head.

I guess I don't understand the question about the exhaust shield. The original should be steel and yes they do crack around the bolt holes. The only replacements are another used one - hopefully in better condition or get someone who has a brake to make you new pieces. I have found a lot of parts for mine on Ebay.

Back in '91, I was able to buy that air duct new (what I called muffler housing) for my 1450. Don't know if still available new although I'm seeing it listed on partstree.com (PN KH-47-755-33) for $193 --ouch! But they are not steel, just cast pot metal. Definitely something you would look for on ebay.

I meant the pot metal exhaust shield. The casting piece that connects to the head. I will take a look at mine again and if need be I will search the internet for a replacement.
