I have a Ford LGT 165 that I inherited from my father-in-law.
It was given to him to tinker with a few years before he passed away.
I want to change the filter and transmission oil.
I order the filter and oil from my local New Holland dealer.
It is different and a little longer than the previous filter.
Are these the replacement filters now being sold?
I will need to bend the tubing slightly to make it fit.
Are there any other pitfalls I should be aware of?
The previous filter has the 'IN' inlet on the return line from the spool valve.
Is this correct?
A metal band tag with the number 159-566 is on the outlet fitting.
What does this number mean? I 'googled' it and found nothing.

I have one of those tractors and have the Ford/New Holland service manual. The hydraulic system diagram in the service manual shows the filter in the return line. Sorry, I do not know what the numbers mean on the filter.

Question, those filters were getting pricey could I asked what New Holland is charging for the supersceded filter?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes that filter is pricy. Paid way too much. $133.40 plus tax for the filter.
I'm still not totally convinced it is the correct filter.
The lady at the counter says it is a replacement but none of the numbers mention 'replaces' the original number.
There is another New Holland dealer in another town 40 miles from here. I may just go there just to check.
Does the manual mention anything about bleeding the lines after the filter change?
It a nice little tractor and I don't want to mess anything up.
This was my father-in-law's tractor and it has lots of sentimental value for my wife.

WOW they did charge for that filter,I wouldn't do anything to that filter until I checked around. Those Sunstrain hydros are common to many garden tractors and so are the Peerless rears.Massey Ferguson 1650 has the same set up,even my Hines H-1600 farm tractor uses the same set up.Got to be someone selling a more reasonable filter.I'd try ebay and Jack's Small Engines to start.

To my knowledge the manual does not mention bleeding. I changed my filter several years back and did not bleed it or pre-fill it. The filter dumps back to the reservior.

The New Holland parts computer should supercede the old filter to the one you have. My dealer has always been able to tell me/show me the superceded notation. Perhaps ask another dealer to verify the number for you.

The first filter (P/N JAC121675) I bought was in 1999 and I paid $45.43, I thought that was a lot of money.

The LGT 195 uses a spin on filter, some guys use that if you can find a parts tractor to get the housing/fittings. Also, check the YT archives for; "Ford 125 Hydro" posted by acrcpa on 12-27-2015, in the Garden Tractors forum. They talked about filters in that post. Can't say all the information is accurate.

Enjoy your tractor.
