MF 10 resurection

I just got my first Garden Tractor, a little MF10. It had the battery removed, fuel drained, and parked in an open shed where it sat for the last 20 years. It is all intact. One original tire still has air in it. The engine is free, and when I short across the terminals of the solenoids it will crank over.
What it WON'T do is crank when I turn the key. What am I missing? I'm corn-fused.
Secondly, the serial number is 1446 020804. What year am I lookin at there, a 1968?
Finally, what is a good source of info (other than yall of course) on this little tractor.
I downloaded and am reading thru the owners manual, parts lists, and service manual. I figured Id reach out to the folks who know already what I am tryin to learn. Thanks in advance

Look up the " agcopartsbook.com". for your tractor, it will be book 651219 it has all the parts numbers, electrical diagrams ect for your tractor. Your tractor has a neutral safety switch in the electrical system, I'm not sure where it is located, some were under the clutch pedal and other times they were under the seat or part of the electric pto system to prevent accidental starting. Hope this helps.

It sounds like maybe your key switch isn't making the starter contact. See if you have power to the switch, check power out of switch on terminal to starter solenoid.

I found the switch on the parts book. The problem was not finding the switch, the local MF dealer was able to get it. The COST was crazy tho. 49 dollars. I looked around all over and got really confused about all the switches and possibilities to destroy the whole electric system if done wrong, so I decided to bite the bullet and just get it, not risk messin up before i get started. It is a FOUR prong switch and those are NOT easy to find apparently. sooooo... More to follow tho, I am sure! When I get it started, I will make a video, or some pictures at least.
Thank you for your help

Make sure you are sitting on the seat and all safety switches are working first. It may not be the key switch.
Or spend the money for a new switch, install it, and still have the problem.
It pays to troubleshoot first, buy parts only if needed.

OK, Update on the MF10. Replaced the solenoid (10bucks), plug, and switch ($52). Engine would crank over then. Sprayed out the carb with cleaner and replaced the fuel line and filter, then put some gas in the tank and found a little brass connector was cracked and letting gas leak all over, so I replaced it. Then, with gas going to the carb and spark goin to the plug I turned it over and choked it and that sucker hit and ran just fine. First time in over 20 years probably that it had run. I shut it off and cranked it a time or two and the starter began to act up and not engage, so I rekon it will be the next thing to work on. Gotta change out the old oil as well, and replace the oil in the transmission as well, so that is to do also.
Anyhow I just wanted to update yuns on how it is goin.
