112 Electric Clutch

I for the life of me can not find a forum about this. I have a John Deere 112 with an electric clutch. Oneof the wires is broke inside the clutch. I have the clutch off the engine and on the bench. How does the clutch come apart, if at all?

The electro-magnet side should be easy to separate from the drive pulley..

If you need, you actually can re-wind that electro-magnet...

Once you have removed all the epoxy and wire from the cavity...

Buy the same sized magnet wire and figure the Length of that wire according to Resistance ( Voltage Drop)..

You want the Voltage to Drop to "Zero" by the time it reaches the end of the Magnet Wire...

Carefully roll and Bundle the Magnet Wire so that the finished Bundle will lay IN the cavity of the original Magnet..

Feed the wire ends out thru the lead-out hole and secure them..

Now, you must be patient and have the windings laying below the upper level of the magnet cavity and SLOWLY pour 30 Minute Epoxy in the groove, covering the Magnet Wire, avoiding any air bubbles..

Tend to it until the Epoxy is setting, working any air bubbles out..

Allow to set and Cure for 24 Hours..

Put the plug on the rire ends and re-mount the Clutch and assemble..Plug it in and you are done...

I did one of those once. Coil housing had degraded and the sand and epoxy failed and allowed the coil to rub on the clutch disk. Cleaned out the remains, rewound a coil on a mock up spool, taped it, fitted it in and potted it with epoxy. I found the number of winds on the old coil, and used copper magnet wire, a larger gauge than the aluminum, and exceeded the original turns by about 10%. Has worked faultlessly for years.

If the coil gives you trouble, drill several small holes in the back of it, for a few String tie-downs..

I would say the Epoxy should not be Higher than the existing Metal..

My meager electrical knowledge just tells me to use enough wire ( Resistance) to Drop the Voltage ( Voltage Drop) to 0 Volts, then there is no "Short Circuit"..

Or, is that dropping Amperage..?...( But maybe??)..I know there will be a Current Draw, cannot remember the particulars anymore..!!
