10 or 15 amp stator

:?: I have a John Deere 110 with a 8hp Kohler engine in which the stator tests bad. All the parts catalogs show a stator with an internal coil on the top, for a Kohler spec# 304240, but mine has an external coil. Can anyone tell me how to tell if mine is a 10 amp or a 15 amp stator?

15 amp.

Only difference between the internal and external coil stator is the internal has a coil much like a small push mower engine uses mounted to the stator plate. The external coil stator does not have the coil mounted on the plate.

I am guessing that since your parts don't match the JD parts catalog, your engine must be a replacement. Your best bet is to get the model and spec. number off the Kohler tag and look them up that way.

If it comes to it, you can probably use either stator. I am pretty sure the same regulator works or can work with both.

I've since dismantled the engine and found out that the original owner must have installed the external coil after the internal one went bad. The original stator is in the engine , missing the coil. My question now is, will a coiless stator work with my flywheel?
