Please help! Waturbury 2-wheel garden tractor

My son is absolutely infatuated with
tractors, equipment, trucks, etc. He
is almost 4 years old. We went to out
first gas engine meet this year, and
my interest has definitely been
sparked too. So since then I've been
looking for a vintage engine project
for me and him to do together. He is
young but I want to start him early
(and I want to learn too!).

So yesterday a project fell into our
lap, and we aquired a 1950's (I
believe) Waterbury model G two-wheel
walk behind garden tractor. With a 2hp
Briggs & Stratton model N engine.
She's a beauty. Only problem is I
can't find anything about them online.
A manual, or diagram, or any
information anyone has about these to
help restore it would be great! There
is a thread in this forum from back in
2005 about someone having a manual for
the model G and was willing to copy
and send it to whomever wanted one,
but the site will not let me reply to
it.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks.

I can't help you with a manual but I can give you some history of your Waterbury machine. They were made by the Vickers Inc. co, in the Waterbury Tool Division in Waterbury, Conn. In 1949 3 models were offered: the "D" with a Briggs & Stratton "N", 2hp engine.. the "E" with a Briggs & Stratton "9", 2.6hp: and the "F" powered by a Briggs & Stratton "14", 4.3hp engine. The "D" had 4 forward speeds and weighed 175 pounds, while the "E" also had 4 forward speeds weighed 185 pounds. The "F" had 3 forward speeds and weighed 275 pounds. A full range of implements and attachments were offered. Also go www.ASECC.com/data/briggs/horsepower for all the data on your N engine and all the rest of old Briggs engines. You can get all kind of help here and find parts also. Have fun with the son on this project, the memories will last a lifetime. Good Luck

Awesome, thanks for the info. I was hoping it was a 49 but I guess the model G wasn't produced then. Do you know the years when the model G was manufactured? I wonder why there is barely anything about the waterbury garden tractors (other than in forums) on the internet. It's frustrating.

I have a book "Garden Tractors 1920-1956" compiled by Alan C. King. Here's what it shows about Waterburys. Three models are listed, E... H.... and R.
