just got a Scotts serial# 1742g I think it is a 99 runs good but when engage mower the motor will die spindles on mower are free do not have a owners book any information will help

Bet you find the seat safty switch is bad.

I also have one of those, the 1742g is the model number (17 horsepower, 42 inch mower deck) while it says Scotts on the machine it is a John Deere. Manuals can be found there.

tried it again just gave it a little more gas and it worked good tried it over works like it was like new now I will have to try sell it thank you Paul

Agree on the seat safety switch as a suspect problem. I still have mine that I bought back when HD sold them. I think mine was earlier than that. Had the Kohler 15. Today it's a power unit for my log splitter.
