Starter Generator

I think that Ken is having a senior moment with those model numbers.

CASE 130, 150, 155, 180, 190, 195, 210, 220, 222, 224, 442 and 444 models all used starter generators in the years prior to 1978. The only exceptions were the 1969 and 1970 CASE 444's....the two years when CASE experimented with electronic ignition. You will find alternators and true starter motors on those tractors.

There is no CASE 212 or 214. Chalk it up to a typo on Ken's part.

Not sure who used them but I know that the field coils for CW rotaton are available and fit in CCW units because a few years ago a repair shop mistakenly installed a set in one of mine. If you have a good starter generator shop around you might check with them.

My Wards garden tractor with SG made by Gilson rotates CW. Hal

Cannot say which way they spun but the old Cub low boy tractor used a starter generator set up

Dave, IIRC, MOST starter-generators used on these small engines turn CW, looking at the pulley end, Briggs, Kohler, Techumseh, Wisconsin, etc.. Cub Cadet with a Kohler is the exception because of the opposite starter/engine mounting.

The old CC starters were mounted to drive at the PTO/shaft side of the engine vs. others that drove the flywheel end.

Dldfjd! I can't type for beans. Tom's right of course. I didn't mention the older ones 1xx, 'cause they are so hard to find that I thought it was of no use. the 'intermediate' age, 2xx/4xx are much more plentiful, at least around my area.

The problem with mine is the armature shaft is worn on the end and the bearing that is supposed to press on is a real sloppy fit so I need a new armature. I do have a tractor like El Toro's and I will use that starter gen if I have to for a while. I put it back together without the SG and I can start it with a rope. I don't believe there is any way to hold it in a lathe so I can turn it smooth and put a different bearing on it.

Well I just ordered one off of a Case 444 last night. I've been watching it since you guys said it was CW. Checked it and the seller had dropped the price $20. It should be here early next week. I'll take it to my repair guy to have him check it out and refresh it. Then I'll have to pull the tractor out of the shed (I just put it back behind 2 others) to put it back on. I've got 3 Case 444 tractors but none have a starter generator. Thanks guys

I use a full size 75 auto battery from Walmart that has connections on the side and they last a long time. Hal
