John Deere 140 H3, help!

I just found and bought an old 1970 John Deere 140 H3 and it needs a lot of work. It was basically left out in a pasture to rot away. I intend on getting it back operational. I found the main reason it was parked after close inspection this evening. The transmission linkage Cam (M42529) is broken in half. The Arm (M42356) is broken off close to the base where it pivots.

I'm hoping I can weld the Cam back together and save it, providing it's just steel and not some sort of cast? However, the broken piece of the Arm is long gone. That could also be fabricated and welded back but I would need a good one to go by.

What's the chances of someone out there having an Arm or even a Cam in their spare parts?

I also need a good left hand side hood/grill support (Cowl) with the hump for the exhaust pipe. Someone hacked mine up right where the hump was to put a straight pipe on it.

Thanks for any help!

Those parts are cast iron or powdered metal, NOT easy to weld/repair.

I have a 140 that went through a shop fire that I have used a few parts off of. Those linkage parts SHOULD still be there and usable. If you would like, I will look tomorrow. $10 plus mailing, if still there and usable.

I have another 140 that I bought stripped down and doubt I'll ever find the time to put together, I would probably sell those parts, as well, but for more $$$.

You MAY be able to find parts on ebay, especially the hood support. Trouble is most will be real sloppy in the hinge straps and rivets, from vibration and wear. I probably have a hood support It could sell, as well, if you don't find one.

Email me, if interested.

I know the 140 used a lot of the same parts as the 120's. Go to the free JD online parts and check catalogs for your tractor by serial number, catalog # 1078 for less than/ to serial # 3000 and 1245 for those over 3001.

Jo, the 120 used the same hydro as the over 30,000 serial # 140's.

His 140 is in the serial # range 22,401 to 30,000 and has the older-style and COMPLETELY DIFFERENT hydro.
