I have this old Craftsman 4000 riding lawn mower . I has sat for a year or 2 not being used. Well I needed to mow an area where I cannot get a big tractor into and the push mower well it would take hours to get it mowed. So I fir up the old rider and air up the tires and go at it. Doing pretty good other then it sounded like it was going to come apart at any time. So all at once the mower just stopped cutting. Engine was still running just fine. Took a look an the mower belt had broken. So drove it where I could work on it. Tried to pull the belt off and when I did I found the clutch area of that system had broken off. Not sure if it is worth the time to try to fix or not. I may have to see if I can make one of the other riders I have back up and running.

Are you talking about the elecric clutch or the belt tightener on the deck? I've welded many of the belt tightener plates back to the deck with good results.

No electric clutch on this one the belt tightener part is what broke off. It has 2 pulleys that move to tighten the belt and the part there on/in broke off. I may drop the deck and have a look see to see if it can be welded back in place. Welding is one thing I do know how to do pretty well but then I am a retired welder

Most parts are available directly from Sears. I have had to rebuild by Craftsman deck twice, really pretty simple
