Toro 325D won't start

I have a 325D that acted like ran out of fuel. Last time it was mowing it started good then when I parked it in the shed for a idle cool down it just slowly died like it ran out of fuel. It was over the empty mark at that point, I put some more diesel in to see if it would help but it still won't start, it almost starts dies and now won't fire.

I've had mostly gas engines and not real sure how to approach this one. It has 2800 hours and recent fuel filter / oil change and new air cleaner.

I worked for 8 years at local golf course and we had a Toro 325 D. If it still has the original fuel system with the electric fuel pump under the left side of the frame, check to see if the pump is getting power and trying to pump. If it is doing that then move to this next step. It has a filter hidden inside the bottom of the fuel pump pump housing. You have to pinch off the fuel line leading from the tank to the pump and then take a 11/16 socket or wrench and unscrew the bottom half of the pump housing and you will see the filter.I used to order the filter from Toro, but the pump is actually an automotive item and should be available from automotive parts supply house. Do not run the pump with out the filter in it.

Thanks for the tip. They are nice big mowers, I've been using it home for about 5 years. This one has 5 blades and a 85 or 88" cut.

would have 325 for my big scale mower except for the price of parts. Toro parts are higher than John Deere. Toro has discontinued a lot of the parts for them
