Restoring John Deere 110

I am restoring a 1965 John Deere 110 and I am having issues with the belts. The old belts are on the tractor and it will only turn the rear wheels when the variable speed lever is in the fast position. I ordered a set of new belts and they are even longer that the old ones. My first question is about the belts. Are the belts the same width? I ordered after market belts and the drive belt is an A belt and the secondary belt is a B width, is that correct? Thanks for your help.

The best thing you can do is go to a JD dealer to get your belts. It sounds like your variator is working so I would start with dealer belts. My brother was a service manager for a dealer for years he says this is a common problem. After market belts just don't work on these old JDs.

WOW do you ever have that right! It is a lot of work to get those belts on and off so you want to do in right the first time. You want to get them from Deere for SURE!!!! They are a half size and you cannot just go pick them up at the local car part place. There is a whole set-up procedure in the owners book and you want to follow it to the letter. NOW and I do mean in big letters, NOW if you find there is any slop in the linkage it MUST be fixed. If you fix everything so it is nice and tight you will end up with a super slick speed control. Have done a couple of them years ago. Oh don't forget to spray a little liquid graphite into the variable pulley set. Makes the disk slide back and forth freely. If you have a worn ridge in the pin that runs through there you will need to replace it. Hope you don't need to.

I've got a 1970 110 and my variator experience is all bad. I don't think you have a chance of getting them right with out a set of JD belts and a book.

If yours is a 1965 that would put it in the 15,001 to 40,000 serial number range.

Here's the correct drive belts, along with dimensions, front (primary) belt is listed FIRST:

#M40015 @ about $32
Weight: 0.31 LBS 0.14 Kg
Belt Section SPECIAL
Effective Length 35.130 IN
Width 0.656 IN
Angle 26?

#M44121 @ about $ 26
Weight: 0.64 LBS 0.29 Kg
Belt Section SPECIAL
Effective Length 67.500 IN
Width 0.656 IN
Angle 26?

As you can see, they are supposed to be the same width, a little over 5/8".

If you care to email me [email protected] I will send you details instructions on setting up the variator after replacing the belts with correct ones.

Thanks for the help, I have the book on how it all works and the variator adjustments, but have the wrong belts. My information shows the same belts for all round fender 110's. Mine is a 1965 serial # A19430. My book shows M82258 and M44121. I ordered John Deere belts this time. Thanks again.gcm
