sprung deck

Have a john deere x300, 42" deck. The person using it hit a stump while mowing. Now leaves about a 4" strip of uneven grass right in the middle.
First thought bent mandrel shaft, but after further checking, the deck is sprung where the mandrel bolts on. Has anyone had any luck
straightening them out where the mandrel bolts and if so, how did you do it. It is the mandrel on the chute side and the outside mounting holes
are lower than the inside holes.

I have a Z225 with the same problem, I shimmed the spindle till it was level. Now it cuts straight. I just summed the outer two bolts which brought the bladed up where it needed to be.

just take the spindle assembly off and use a big hammer to straighten the deck where the spindle mounts. Used to do it all the time on the 110's and 200 series when I worked for a dealer.

Have straightened several, I wouldn't just start swinging a hammer, I use an 8 inch piece of railroad rail to backup where I'm hitting. Just painted this deck this morning, the outside spindle holes were bent.

If you want to see a Youtube video, There is one by a guy named Taryl on there. But you gotta get through the silly skit they do first.

The job GAB did looks gust great! You need to learn a few "tin knocker" tricks. Most all decks are set up so the blades are straight, true, and in a perfect line. Lay the deck upside down on a cement floor with a sheet of plywood under it. Gently "form" the deck with a hammer a LITTLE at a time. Do not just whale on it! With it right side up you should be able to "sight" across it and see if there are still ripples. After you install new mandrels and blades they all should be in a perfect straight line. It will take time but it can be done. I had to rebuild the three blade 54" deck on my Husqvarna with patches and everything new but it was worth it. Costs were in the $200.oo range to fix it but a new deck in the box is around $700.oo. Take your time and do it right!

Had my Troy-Bilt deck bent down, took a 8' pry bar and hooked under one of the loop guards [ don't know how to describe it ] and hauled off and bent her back up level, works OK. Didn't worry about if it was right or not, or level, or parallel, or correct, or in line ... it works.

Thanks everyone for the input. I took deck off and removed spindle and used wood block and hammer to straighten it. After putting spindle on and taking off about three times, I got it straight. It cuts level now and no skipped grass or uneven cuts. Sure beats the 6 to 7 hundred for new deck!
