MF 10 Garden tractor without spark

Started working on my MF 10 ser # 1446028984 with Tecumseh Engine HH100 115097E and ser # 5301E has no spark. Is there a way to test the solid state ignition module? It has power to module with the key on. Also can someone tell me the year of the tractor and engine. Thanks

Are you sure there is supposed to be power to the ignition module? Most are magneto powered, the wire terminal is a kill ground. Connecting power to the terminal will ruin the module.

I could be wrong, but check it out before connecting a new one!

I agree with Steve. Someone MAY have swapped out the ignition switch to a similar-looking but not right one that gives power to the ignition vs. shorting it out to stop.

Oh, HECK I can't remember how that goofy Tech system was supposed to work, suggest checking out the link below, calling the guy.

If you have power to the SSI / solid state ignition ITS cooked they are unforgiving being feed 12 volts, are you sure its a SSI system some of the early HH100 had points magnetos, and if so they are easy to convert to battery ignition.

What you need is a service/repair manual for an HH100 eng, depending on yr eng made tecumseh used 2 different solid state ign systems depending on starting system on eng.

1.-Early system(late 60's-early 70's) on eng with starter/generator a generator coil/solid state trigger was mounted under flywheel & provided power to a small coil on a Y bracket mounted over flywheel when eng running.

2.-Later system (early 70's till end of production)eng had a normal bendix drive starter & alt stator under flywheel with a large cast aluminum ign module mounted over the flywheel, this system had a seperate coil on alt stator to power solid state module & also had 2 trigger pins pressed into outside lip of flywheel to turn module on/off.

On both of the above system's the ign sw grounded(shorted out)+ dc voltage to ign system from under flywheel generator/trigger model or seperate coil on alt stator to ign module when ign sw in off/stop position,on later system the only way I know of to check ign module is a direct replacement, coil for power to module seldom has a problem although you can check same with an ohmmeter & also check that both trigger pins present in flywheel lip.

On both system's there should be NO power to ign module when eng not running,if so bob/steve may be correct in that ign sw replaced with wrong type sw & module cooked or you have a short in elect system putting +12v into ign kill lead.

According to eng sn you gave the eng/tractor is probably a 75 however due to an oversight by Tecumseh the 1st number(5)in sn is yr eng made, but it doesn't tell you the decade it's in(60's,70's 80's)my guess is 75 because I don't think the HH100 eng was still in production in 85.

There's an even better bet that its a 65 as I'm pretty sure the HH100 went out of production in the late 60's at least the starter / gen models did and in the 70's the 10hp had a gear drive starter.

Here is some more facts about the engine. It's an electric start engine, no starter gen. I don't know if the switch has been changed that caused the wire to the solid state ignition to be key hot. I've checked the stator for no load out put which yielded 120.4 volts a.c. while cranking the engine with spark plug installed. My engine had the 610906 ssi. I would like to get a wiring diagram for the Massey 10 serial #1446028984 not much for electrical. Thanks everyone for the help so far.

Hi I've searched and can not find any MF GT manual online that you can download, there are many place you can buy the manuals the Tecumseh manuals are available on line for download.
Overnight Solutions makes a new drop in ignition unit for the engine the cost is $150.00 including shipping and they work good and are a plug and play unit I have one on my Tec OH160.

Thanks, have one coming from Dale at overnight solutions. Before I install I need to rewire and make sure I have the correct switch.
