New muffler glowing red, 74 AMF 8hp briggs

Running good but new muffler glowing red, I'm guessing not normal? Any suggestions?

Not sure if that model has points or not... If it does, be sure they are gaped properly.

Otherwise, if it is running properly, that is not unusual in hot weather under heavy load. Be sure the cooling fins are clean.

Although I have seen the exhaust port in those mufflers get red hot, It could be that your fuel mix is too lean. Try opening the mixture needle under the float bowl 1/4 turn. Maybe a bit more. If it gets an extra 'burble' to the sound or starts laboring or smoking, close it a bit.
