Low pressure 12V fuel pump

Sometimes my tractor will go 2-3 weeks with out running & requires turning it over a bit. I've been thinking about installing a low pressure 12v fuel pump. On my Ariens with 16hp Kohler. The fuel tank is slightly lower than the carb & I think fuel after time goes back to tank. If used weekly it starts right up. Has anyone have any input on using LP 12v fuel pump with a Kohler K series engine? The pump I've been looking at has 2-4 psi.

I had a similar problem with an onan engine in a gravely. Could not get onan fuel pump to work. Added a 1-2 psi electric pump. Even this was too much pressure as it flooded the carb. Had to purchase pressure regulator (redline 0.7 to 14 psi) and adjusted to lowest pressure. After that the carb worked right and it runs good

I agree with Sam C. That's too much pressure. If you will look on the Weekend Freedom Machines website, there's a thread about low pressure fuel pumps.

I don't believe gasoline is draining back to the tank however, the level in the float bowl can drop over time from evaporation. I installed an electric pump on my Kohler K341 maybe 5 years back, yes, I do get more consistent starts after sitting a bit. The pump is 3-4 psi as I recall. I recently purchased a lower pressure pump, Facet # 60304, 1-2 psi @ 15 gph, for another application. I have not had flooding problems with the higher pressure pump on the K341, but would recommend the lower pressure.

Note; I also installed a switch to shut off the pump and a shut off valve in the fuel line. Both the switch and the fuel shut off are placed on the dash of the lawn tractor. If the tractor is to be stored for long periods I will shut off the fuel, then shut off the pump and allow the engine run out of fuel. This clears the carb of most of the fuel - helping to minimize storage problems. Remember, any filter goes after the pump.

I put one on my case probably 15 years ago I believe it is a Facet brand inline pump.
These pumps are not restrictive when not running so your factory fuel pump can pull fuel through it and function normally.
I have mine hooked up to a momentary pushbutton switch, when I go to start it after it has been sitting for some time I just push the button for about five seconds to prime the system and it fires up almost instantly.
Works well when you run out of gas to refill the lines and carb.

That's a good idea! I have several regular 12 fuel pumps just setting on shelf & have noted that they were non- restrictive .As said all that's needed is to fill fuel bowl for starting.

Thanks

I too have installed one on my k532 about five years ago. I think it was a 2-4 psi one. It works great. I like the way Indiana Ken has done his though and think I am going to copy his idea...

Hi samc, I curious when you installed the 1 -2 psi pump did you disable the built in pump on the carb>
I( installed a 2 -4 psi electric pump on my Onan powered Sears Suburban a couple of yrs ago and it runs as good as an Onan will but I did disable the pulse pump.
