I have a Homelite T16 . Does not get fuel in the carb. Gas is to it but does not fill carb to make it run. Has spark. Won't even pop with starting fluid. What could it be.

Carb needs a good cleaning or rebuild.

A sticking float needle is the number one cause for no fuel entering the bowl.

Spark but no pop could be caused by a sheared flywheel key throwing the engine out of time.

Have you checked for compression? A Stuck or sticking valves will also cause an engine to not run or hit.

Hi the float could be stuck in the up / shutoff position not letting gas into the carb, remove the main jet at the bottom of the carb bowl if no gas come out float is stuck, you could tap lightly on the side of the carb to see if that will loosen it if you have to dissemble the be VERY care full the emulsion tube has to be removed first efore trying to split the carb.
Starting fluid is worthless for trying to start an engine get a dish soap squeeze bottle put some gas in it and squirt a small amount in the carb thur the airfilter hole and see it the engine will run.

You have two problems. The carb problem I'm guessing is a stuck
choke. If you remove the air filter and spray a mist of starting
fluid over the intake it should run as long you are spraying. At
very least it should pop.

Could have a stuck valve also.

I will second GB and say I hate start fluid. Oil pump can with some gas and then give the carb a squirt or two It should pop off. If it runs a little and stops that means carb problems. Most likely a stuck float. Water and ethanol are your worst enemy. Corrosion. Look on U-tube and see how to remove ethanol from gas. Easy as pie. I do it now and have no problems anymore. If you crank the engine and squirt the gas, and still nothing, then you might have a sheared key. Also a bad ignition switch, or a bad coil. Also easy to check for valve problems. Pull the plug and make sure the wire is far away. Turn the flywheel with your finger in the hole. You will sure know when the piston is coming up on compression cause it will pop out your finger. More information then you need. Just read the beginning.

Ok guys this is what I have done. Compression is at about 95, should be good eh?? With gas on and needle removed from bottom of carb- gas flows freely. Good to.. Spray a gas mist in with air filter off and I still get nothing. Bad..Is it possible to put the springs on the govenor wrong and have all the wrong tension on them?

Hi here's a drawing of the spring connections.

I didn't read everything that was posted but most was fuel related. Have you checked for spark at the plug wire? Your Sparkplug doesn't have a grey film on the insulator does it? I am thinking that engine uses points and condenser-probably in a box on the side of the engine with a red button on it.
