tractor runs good but when I turn on blades motor stalls took drive belt off mower still stalls when I put drive on mower real good shape do not have wire diagram for it

Are you talking about a 160 that is an antique? Like maybe the early 90s or around there. I have one as a Tug tractor in my yard. Now to answer your question. Did this problem just show up? You have switch problems. Under the seat is a safety switch to make sure your but is in the seat when you try to turn on the mower. Far as I know the JD dealer should still have new replacement switches. My Husqvarna has a seat switch that does double duty. First you need to push down the clutch. Next you start the engine. If you want to get off of the machine while it is running you need to push the clutch and lock the brake . Now with your rear in the seat and engine running you can start the deck with the switch for the electric clutch. If you lift up off of the seat everything shuts off. If this is how your 160 used to work and now it don't.....You have a busted switch somewhere but I bet on the seat switch. If your seat is all ratty then it got rain water in it or something.

When you are on seat without motor running you can hear it engage .Took the belt off motor take off pulley start tractor seat on seat try to engage pulley and motor stalls thanks Paul

Take the drive belt off and see how hard the deck blades spin by hand. I have had this problem with mowers that have sat for a long time, sometimes it is just belts that need to be turned by hand, and sometimes it is bad bearings. Might be a coil going bad in the clutch too.
