tractor has a 20 hp 2 cylinder kohler vertrical shaft engine. 46 inch cut 3 blades, hydromatic transmission. How does one add 20/50 oil to the automatic transmission after removing the filter. Looks like a hose could be removed from the top of the automatic transmission and add hil at the hose port.
Does anyone know where an operators manual would be available?
Thanks

I would think Searspartsdirect.com would have an owners manual if anyone has it.

You say there is a hose in the top of the transmission? There is probably some kind of vent or filter in the end of the hose.

Remove the vent/filter from the hose and put a funnel in it and pour in your oil. Slowly-You will probably fill your hose many times before the transmission actually gets full.

I don't know how you will tell when its full. You may have to suction out most of the oil in the hose itself so it won't burp it out the first time it gets hot. At least that is what I do.

t.r.k.
Thanks for the reply. I did find the parts for the unit on sears.com. The hose is a vent hose for the transmission. I tried to put oil in the hose and it just ran over top of the hose.

I have a sears garden tractor with a Hydro-Gear transmission which is what you have in yours. I called Hydro-Gear directly and talked to them direct and was told not to mess with that transmission because it is a sealed unit. The only time you do any thing to it is if your having problems with it other wise leave it a lone.

What about the filter on the transmission? Do you change the filter on yours? Mine is working fine. Obtained the machine from another person so thought I should change the filter. Information you got from hydro gear sounds like best to just leave the transmission alone.
Thanks,
