105 Cub Cadet deck clutch

So last summer dad and myself resurrected this 105 Cub Cadet. We rebuilt the deck clutch with a new spring and fiber disk. Used it all last summer with no problems. This spring went to mow and the clutch slipped because the spring was broke. Rebuilt it again with a new spring and it broke again last week. Got another rebuild kit this week from a different source and put it in. I didn't even get the clutch reinstalled and the spring broke again. I followed the directions and used the gauge for setting the spring tension each time. Is there a bad batch of these kits out there or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Eli

Which is breaking? The long Clutch Loading, short Clutch Teasing, Clutch Release Rod or the Pedal Return spring?

The spring that keeps breaking is the triangular shaped one with 3 fingers in the clutch for the deck.

Did you by any chance get a WF kit instead of a NF? Gauges are different.

the only other thing I can think of is installing the spring upside down, but that should be obvious.

I used to mess with a lot of old Cub Cadets, (before Case and JD got me) and have never seen one of those break. Loose tension yes, break, No.
