Cub 125 suction tube

I have a cub 125, a 1968 model, that has been leaking steadily from the bottom fitting on the suction tube. This is the original suction tube (the one that goes up and over the top of the hydro unit and loops back to the other fitting). I have split the tractor and removed the tube, inspected it, found no visible cracks or any obvious reasons for the leak. I wrapped the fittings with teflon tape and replaced it, tightened the connections and it still leaks.
It leaks while the tractor is sitting and I can only assume it gets worse when the tractor tuns and the oil gets hot. Is this a common problem? Do I replace the tube? Or do I just live with the leak? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks!

It is really uncommon for these tubes to leak unless they have been messed with. Most likely and a very common problem on these old Cubs is the cork gasket that goes between the alum. hydro transmission and the cast iron differential assy. The gasket is above the pickup tubes area and will run down on the tubes making you think it is the pipe fittings. If this is your problem you will have to split the tractor and remove the hydro assy.It isn"t a really big or hard job but probably a 2-3 hour job.If you don"t have one you could really use a service manual to make it easier.A service manual from a 123, 125,or 127 would work. Also note that there are aftermarket rubber type gaskets available that will last longer but the old cork one has probably lasted about 40 years.Go to one of the Cub Cadet forum sites for more information and leads to parts and a manual. To make sure you need to clean the front side of the unit very well and observe closely. It will be a good time to drain all the transmission fluid, clean the differ.and replace with new.

Hi - any chance you have a part number for that kit? I have a 123 with a cracked suction tube. BTW, any advice on exactly how to replace the thing? Do I have to split the tractor? (newbie)

(quoted from post at 17:09:54 02/29/12) Cub Cadet makes a kit to replace the over the top tube. When I replaced the tube, with the kit I never had another leak.
