I need new blades on this mower and cannot get the nuts off of the blades. tried impact wrench with air
compressor and hold blade with 2x4 and 24 inch breaker bar and cannot budge either one. does anyone have a
suggestion? I know this is not the best mower but friend gave it to me and it does mow good. Thanks in
advance!

Is it a nut/bolt set up or just a nut on a stud?? If nut/bolt set up I would just put 2 wrenches on and break the bolts and be done with it. Or you might try some heat but be sure to have some water handy so if the old grass starts to burn you can put it out fast

I thought about left handed threads. ran impact wrench for left handed threads and could not get to break. The nut is on a jack shaft, the top the shaft is a nut holding on the pulley. it has two of these and I can not get either one to budge. I have to mow with it tomorrow and will have to take the deck back off after that. last resort is to take the deck to shop and have them change the blades, which I do not really want to do.

Most of the yard machines that I am aware of were built by MTD and they use regular right hand thread nuts to hold the blade on the spindle.

The spindle has a 6 point star on it. (Some aftermarket spindles have fewer points, but the blade fits the same way.)

I have seen some that the nut was apparently frozen in place. I usually cut them off with a grinder and replaced with a new nut. I grind in from each side close to the threads. Grind the washer face thin too. It will turn blue when you get it pretty thin.
Then take a punch or a cold chisel and hit one of the flats in the direction the nut normally comes off.

If you have access to an acetyline torch, you can heat the nut red hot and then hit it with the impact before it cools.

A heavy duty 3/4" impact wrench has also worked when my regular 1/2" impact wouldn't.

I don't think it has left hand threads. I don't think yard machines uses a nut. I think it has a bolt that screws into the spindle.

Its not a nut its a bolt. The other end runs up to the pulley and is a nut. You could take the nut loose on the pulley and let the spindle drop out, if this will make working with it easier. Soak it in your favorite juice get a good 6 point socket and it should come loose

I've had to use heat and a big breaker bar. Then anti-seize for easy removal the next time.

today I removed the deck. stood it up, took a 4X4 and a breaker bar with the correct size socket on it and believe it or not a 2" by four foot pvc pipe and got the nuts off. One problem I had was getting the blade locked with a 2x4. both nuts took quite a bit of pressure but did break loose. I was surprised the pvc pipe worked. My other pipes I use as cheater bars are at our other place, about 288 miles away. Thanks for the help and advice.
