300 hours on the LT 1045. Last week went to start it and just heard a single click. Trickle charged the battery, same thing. Guessed it was a bad starter. Jumped directly to the starter post with a booster box - started right up. Mowed for a couple hours.
Ordered a new starter.
Yesterday I wanted to use the lawnmower again, so I jumped it again, same way. Started right up, but this time, it just died while idling after about 5 minutes. Hm. Jumped it again, or tried, but now everything electrical is gone. No lights, no click, nothing on the LED dash display when I turn the key to ON. Checked the fuse, it's ok.
Any ideas? The new starter hasn't arrived yet.

Linwi,

I hate to be the one who tells you this, but it's your solenoid that's bad and unless the solenoid is on the starter like they are on some Kohler starters, that you don't need a starter just a solenoid . If you can boost it by jumping straight to the starter by bypassing the solenoid that ought to tell you that it's not the starter . If starter was bad then it wouldn't do anything with you boosting it . As for the electrical not working then that tells me that your battery might be bad or the charging system is not working or at least not as it should or you have a bad connection somewhere . Could be a bad ground or dirty cable ends on battery . Check battery and connections as well as charging system !

Also try boosting straight off battery like you was jump starting it like you can do with a car and jumper cables but make sure that connections are clean ! hook booster box to battery like you was boosting a car . As for it dieing after running five minutes that could be from the carb solenoid shutting off the fuel from lack of electricity from battery or charging system . Or carb or gas filter could be stopped up . If it has an electric clutch to run deck blades then you need a good amp battery that's good and charged and a good strong charging system and they need to work together or it will kill the electrical system !

How old is the battery? Did you load test the battery after you charged it? You may have had a problem with the solenoid at first, but now it sounds like you have a bad connection or a broken wire somewhere in the circuit, being that you say the fuse was good.

Time to stop guessing and get out a test light or meter, it's lots cheaper than buying parts until it is fixed.

You might not believe me, but I've fixed many electrical non-functioning things / switches / etc. on my Cub Cadet with a good heavy double-dose of PB Blaster. I know, I know, it ain't right, but it works for me.
