case 155 steering shaft

can anyone tell me how to remove the steering shaft from a 1968 case model 155. and if a steering shaft off of a case 222 would fit the model 155? any thing is helpful!

The shafts are NOT interchangeable. Remove the steering wheel cap. Remove the nut that is threaded onto the shaft. Now comes the fun part. You will have to soak the area with a top quality penetrating oil and I do not mean WD40. The shaft is SPLINED and so is the steering wheel hub and rust often locks the two together. Use a different nut and thread it back on to the shaft until it is flush with the top of the shaft. Use a decent quality air chisel with a hammer-head tip. Have a helper gently pull up on the steering wheel while you apply the air chisel to the top of the nut. The shaft and gear are one unit and must be extracted by sliding downward until clear of the underside of the tractor.

You may get lucky and the wheel will just pull off. If that does not happen, then you need someone to grab either side of the wheel and give it upward pressure while you use a hammer on the nut. Keep in mind that the metal hub is imbedded into the plastic wheel. It is possible to break the connection between the hub and the plastic, thus rendering the steering wheel useless. You can make your own penetrating oil by mixing equal parts of ATF and acetone. Mix up what you think you will need because the acetone will dissipate when exposed to the air.

I've got a 222 setting here with a broken steering wheel from the exact same problem. Any place to get another steering wheel? I haven't done any searching, I just saw your post and thought I'd ask.

Thanks Irv

Well if your plastic wheel is broken , just remove or break the the old steering wheel
Away from steel hub , then you try to split the metal hub with chisel, . My 446
Wheel broke and the shaft on that had a keyway I used an old keyed pulley
And drilled and taped the face of the pulley for go cart style wheel
