Engine will start and rev up and mow with lots of power, then after 100 feet will go poooofff, sometimes goes BANG!, and stops abruptly. Will restart easily, restart right away, and repeat the 100 feet drive and stop abruptly. Any ideas? I use the ethanol gas, as on everything on the farm, all other Kohler / Stihl / Farmall / Chevy engines, so it's not ethanol. Have 125 hours, regular oil changes, regular hydro oil and filter changes. Thanks for any ideas.

Well, it sounds like you are beginning to learn about gas with ethanol in it. LOL.

When you find the problem, most likely it will be a restriction in the fuel system somewhere, not necessarily in the carburetor. Fuel tank outlet, fuel lines, filter, shutoff (if present) or carburetor. All are likely places. The fuel cap? maybe but I doubt it. There is also a possibility that something is interrupting current to your fuel solenoid on the carburetor.

If you have a test tank, now would be a good time to hook it up and see if it runs any longer on that than on the supply from the mower.

I have a Kohler Command CV25 on a ZTR and last summer it started backfiring under load while my son was mowing. Backfired severely enough to take out an exhaust valve seat. After replacing both cylinder heads, fuel filter, and carb, it still Backfired the same way. Pulled the flywheel and found that the low voltage terminals on the ignition coils had become loose. Krimped down on the terminals, reconnected, and problem was solved.
