CC 129 engine Chatter

Engine is new, as of being overhauled a year ago and with short block, new piston, etc.
When it is under load, or being lugged a bit, it chatters....sound like a cricket. What is going on here? was worse with 30w oil. lessened up a bit with 10w30.
What is this? What is going on here??

Could be several things, are you certain it's coming from the engine and not the drive line or implement clutch? There are anti chatter spings in teh imp clutch that often get discarded at overhaul. If coming from the engine the balance gears are often the culprit. If so they need to be fixed or removed pronto or you will have a ventilated block soon.

Check your engine mount bolts. Have you tried it with the hood off? Those hoods tend to rattle. The hood is not hitting the fuel cap, is it?

The other guy may have the right idea: if your driveshaft has a rag joint, it may be twisting to the point it hits something. Like the hydro filter.

I have a 129 and the hydro seems to load it pretty much. I don't make it lug if I can help it.

I had a 147 where the drive hub on the hydro was worn and loose, that caused a rattle noise under load. It may also be pre-ignition in the engine. Also, are all the engine tins tight? Grille screen and hood tight?

YES I had a rattle last summer on one of my lawn tractors and it was loose mount bolts. I felt so silly!
