Had a chance yesterday to check/reset the governor linkage. No discernible change. Some of the difference between mowers other than ZT versus garden tractor could be the inline timed blades on the tractor deck. What doesn't even touch the governor with the inline and onan makes the Vanguard in the ZT open up immediately. Tom

WELllllll.... some day I have got to buy the official Brigs book for these engines. I have several books for the older and smaller stuff but not the twins. Good question on the deck. Find a totally level hard surface, "concrete", and level the deck. Your deck, check the side to side and the pitch should be 3/8 to 1/2 inch lower in the front to rear ratio. You want to cut the grass one time. Also I do not use Mulcher or high volume blades. You can buy what we who live in sandy areas call "sand blades". They are almost totally flat and use much less power to cut but don't throw as hard. Also they don't chew the decks up so quickly. Sand blasting from the blades. When you level the deck I take the measurments under the deck with the blades themselves. I use a little wood block with steps cut in it. Very handy and pretty quick. Now back to the engine. My one smaller Husqvarna 46 inch slows a little but that is in pretty heavy stuff. I know with these engines when the little springs weaken or there is ANY slop in the linkage it will mess stuff up. I know that these NIKI carbs are a little slower to respond cause they are very PC correct if you get my drift. Last resort is get the book. I am going to order one from Briggs themselves so I get the correct one. There are ones on flebay but I don't know what it looks like. Also I haven't found any online PDF files. Tons of files for the machines but not the engines. You are correct to have noticed how these twins do not respond the same as other engines but they do lug better. As I said it is time to buy the manual. I will get on the phone tomorrow.

Hello jeffcat,

If you are computer savvy, you may want to buy the cd-dvd version of the manual,

Guido.
