ive aquired a cooper edge n trim model n. anyone know how to date it or any info greatly appreciated. its in beautiful shape. even has tag on air cleaner that would have come off the first time the air cleaner was removed.

Cooper make a good product. I have a Cooper 21 rotary lawn mower bought back in the early 70's.The deck(steel),wheels, and handle are still in good shape but the 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton is shot.

B&S engine numbers can date the engine's manufacture. .....The engine may or may not be the original engine installed on the edger, but more than likely it is based on your description.

If it has a B&S engine having Model - Type - Code numbers, the Code number identifies when the engine was made. ......These numbers will be found stamped into the sheet-metal flywheel shroud.

The first two numbers of the Code are the last two numbers of the year. ....The next two digits indicate the month, and the next two digits indicate the day.

The edger may have been made a few months to a year after the engine was made.

If it is an older B&S engine, the engine numbers are in a Model - Type - Serial format, and can be dated through the Serial number. ....These engines usually had the numbers stamped into a plate which was attached to the cooling fins of the engine.

(quoted from post at 19:55:04 06/07/15) We got married in 1969 and wife bought it the next year.
I bought mine at a Kawasaki motorcycle dealership in Houston in 1975. Still runs great. However, time has taken its toll on the rest of it. Recently both handles snapped in two, and the notch that holds the blade into position is so worn that it no longer keeps it in place. I'd gladly have it rigged so it will continue to keep our lawn looking good. Not sure what I'm going to do.
