I pulled this 20 hp Onan from a wheelhorse tractor at the local scrapyard. It has a Toro model and serial number on the tag.

I'm wondering what the onan model # would be. P220g? I have no idea of the age.

Another onan question.... I see the p218g and P220g have the same bore and stroke, so where does the extra 2 hp come from? Different carb?

Thanks, Jeff.

Looks like a B-43.Same one I am working on for a John Deere mower. Can't see the tag but it could be the P220 made in August 1991.

That's a P220, I have one in a 520 Wheel Horse, also have a P218 in a 518 WH. I was trying to figure that horse power deal a few years ago and I think the only difference is the cam specs.

jeff and club
yes, it is a P 220 built in aug of 1991
as was stated.
the difference in the P 218 and P 220,
is the P 220 has a bigger carb, and a hotter camshaft,
more lift and duration on the intake.
thank you. boomer ( the used onan engine parts guy, also NOS and new )

Thanks for the info guys. Was just wondering what I had. I went back and looked at the tag again and can barely make out the P220g before the rest of the model #.

I couldn't leave it to go to the crusher. I've messed with a couple onans in the past and know how pricey parts can be. This one showed 540 hours on the meter. I probably would have bought the tractor too if someone hadn't swiped all the wheels and tires off of it.
