Production of the 155 Series ended in 1968 and that means.... your tractor is at least 48 years old. For all you know, the bushing that supports the quadrant gear is badly worn. The teeth on the quadrant and pinion gear could also be badly worn. Additional free-play might be found in the clevis and pin that is on one end of the drag link along with more free-play in the ball joint on the opposite end of the tie rod. The clevis and pins on either end of the tie rod are suspect as well as the holes the pins fit into. An accumulation of free-play of all these components will translate into lots of steering wheel movement that does not actually cause the tractor to turn.

I see nothing in the Parts Manual that would indicate any sort of adjustment to the clearance of the pinion and quadrant gear. CASE did provide that adjustment on the 200/400 Series that followed the 100 Series you have but that does not help. For this reason, I have outlined all of the other places to eliminate free-play in the hopes that you will end up with better "feel" at the steering wheel. NEW parts for the 100 Series are becoming harder to find. Used parts and just that....used and worn.

This is one of the reasons why I tell people..... the 100's have had their day. Use them for show or parade duty only.
