I'm stumped!

I tried to start the tractor and it didn't have power to the generator/starter. I pressed the starter several times and it finally made contact and started. I reversed the tractor and it traveled about 4 feet and died. I kept pressing the started button and it never would make contact with the starter/generator. I loosened the starter/generator and nothing, no electrical contact at all.

Also, the engine seems to be seized up. I can put the transmission in 3rd gear and the rear wheels skid on the concrete floor. I can try to spin the engine with a lever at the clutch and it takes a lot of force to turn. Not freely.

When I parked the tractor yesterday, no problems, everything was normal.

What a day!

Any suggestions?

That the starter would not turn with the belt off, says either the solenoid is bad, a bad cable connection, a low/bad battery, or bad starter. Need a test light or volt meter to start checking, otherwise an expensive guessing game!

Several things can cause a hard turn on the engine. If gravity fed fuel system, could be the cylinder is full of gas. Pull the plug, see if it will turn. Also could be something binding in the drive system.
