Bought this big bad used Husqvarna {AYP] machine about three years ago almost to the day. TONS of time and quite a few bucks invested. Same as the big tractor guys just a bunch smaller. Almost $700.00 worth of parts, welding, fabrications, and repairs. In a few more days it will be complete but now I can at least run it around the block! Only made one year that I can find in the manuals 2005. Has a six speed manual transmission. High / low range. Also carries a 54 inch 3 blade deck. It is my newest Beast. Very few parts from the hydro machines interchange. Has a much heavier frame. The tranny weighs more than the 22hp engine! This is not a restoration, it is about a 90% rebuild into a very strong and usable machine. With the way the console and frame are positioned it feels like you are ridding a horse. If you point your toes inwards a little your knees actually grip the console. Neat!

Naaa. Just thought it looked so neat. The pictures really don't show how chunky of a machine it is. Kinda like a 300U International or a Ford "N" tractor. As I posted, they were only made the one year and how many "modern" Garden tractors do you see with a real manual tranny? You put this baby in 1st gear low range and you can crawl on your belly faster than it moves. Mow in 3rd gear low range is just right for heavy lawn. When I first got it the 54 inch deck was all busted up but now fully repaired. Has 10ga metal so is very tough. Even all broken up it mowed like a carpet. I bought this to use up at the farm where both drives are almost 1/4 mile long and the front and side lawns are about one ahcre each. Roller bearings and thrust bearings in the steering. bronze bushing in the front axle. All of the pulleys and idlers are new. New mandrels in the deck and all broken or missing parts welded and or replaced. Just like you guys do with bigger tractors. In other words.... Just for the fun of it. All of the neighbors just keep shaking their heads and say yup it is a beast. The only thing close today made by Husqvarna is around $3,300. That hydro machine in the back round is now jetting junked cause I took everything off of it that would interchange. Perfect seat almost perfect rear tires and rims, control cables, switches, steering wheel, things like that. I am giving the frame to another repair shop so they can test these big Briggs twins when they rebuild them.

The Sears and Yard Pro have that 6 speed manual transmission. That transmission has been around a long time. My dad had a 1976 Sears SST16 garden tractor that was built by Roper and had the same transmission. The Ranch King garden tractor has a 4 speed cast iron housed transaxle. These transmissions are tough and hold up good if taken care of. I load a little over a cord of firewood on hay wagons and pull them around the yard with these tractors. The AG tire work better than turf tires for pulling loads.

Yes your green Sears is an AYP machine. Know a guy who has two of them. They are a 2005 and 2006 years. The one I have as far as I know is a one year only Husqvarna. Sears I don't know if it is only the two years or more. Found one of these trannys on fleabay in the box for $799.o. On your machine, follow that hi/low shift handle back to where it goes into the transmission. Give that roller chain connector link a squirt of oil. My link was totally jammed up from not getting a squirt. That Briggs twin sounds so sweet! Some day I might add up how much this rebuild cost me. Ha ha, ya that will happen. Does your's hold 5 gallons of gas? Almost $10.oo to fill it with Hi-Test today.

Just looked a little closer and that Yard Pro is also an AYP machine. Extra heavy frame and hi/lo shifter. Great machines! Only trouble is there is no easy way to get on or off of these babys. Two years ago my cross the street neighbor told me about a bargain he saw at the local LOwes. They had a bunch of AYP mandrels for sale to clear them out. I got there as fast as I could. I bought all FIVE Husqvarna replacements that normally go for $30.oo each......$3.50 each! Just shy of 19 bucks with taxes. I was giggling all the way home!

d beatty, I would be worrying you about that truck if I was closer. Nice looking truck.
Also, what is that interesting piece behind the truck, with the spoke wheel and flat tire ?

The Sears is a 1997 with a 22 HP Pro Kohler and a 50"deck. The Yard Pro is a 1998 with a 20 HP Vanguard Briggs & Stratton with a 50" deck. I also have a 1998 Craftsman with a 24 HP Pro Kohler with 50"deck but it has a Hydro Gear transmission in it. About 85% of the parts (except engine) are interchangeable and same parts number.

The Craftsman and Yard Pro have tanks some where around 4 or 5 gallon. I run the high grade regular gasoline and add Stratton fuel stabilizer and Marvels mystery oil. They will run around 4 t0 5 hours under load. I mow around 3 acres of yard with a lot of trees.

I have the 50" deck and just replaced the electric clutch and 2 mandrels. The new clutch was $230.00 and mandrels were $80.00 each (US made)could have got mandrels made in China for $55.00.

Could you show a picture of the shift pattern so a person would know if they were looking at a heavy duty transmission or "something else"? Do they always have the hi/lo coupled to the transmission for 6 forward speeds?

I haven't got a picture but its likes an H pattern but neutral is up and down instead of side to side. Its 1-2-3-R low range and 4-5-6-R in high range. There is a lever on right side that shifts a gear in transmission from high to low range. If you look at picture you can see the red knobs that do the shifting. I change oil in these units every 2 years and add Lucas oil stabilizer to oil. They seem to be a tough transaxle and I never try shifting gears on the run.
