Spindle bushing wear---

I have a 2009 Cub Cadet GT 2542 lawn tractor with 650+ hours on it (all mowing).
I have changed the oil & filter every 50 hours, greased all fittings at least once a month & cleaned/replaced the air filter as it looked like it needed it.

Today while the front was lifted I noticed the front spindles have some play in them. I can lift the front wheel about 1/4".
Is this normal wear for 650 hrs?

Are you talking of play in steering spindles or wheel spindles? Wheel spindles can be chimed with washers and steering spindles can be chimed with a steel or nylon thrust washer to take up end play.

I know I am going into the deep end again. IF your wheels have steel bushings they will wear the bottom surface of your spindles. On my big bad old cub 108 and my Husqvarna I installed true ball bearings in the wheels. If you can knock out the steel bushings the hubs take a one inch with a 5/8 bore bearing. You need to look and measure and get back to us before you head down this road. On my stuff it worked fantastic and you are catching the problem early. Let us know.

Thanks for your comments, I will try to be more clear.
I have the parts manual. It does NOT show any bushing in that area.
It looks like the axle pivot ends will need to be bored out to insert a bushing that would fit the axle assy.

Not working for a CC dealer, I don't know. I do know that although Husqvarna parts books don't show the king pin bushings, they are available as a separate part from the axle casting.(For some models of Husqvarna tractor style mowers, at least.)

If you are just sliding the kingpin up and down in the axle casting, and it doesn't have much play side-to-side, its probably o.k. like it is. With the weight of the mower on it it will always be on the bottom.

It's a cast beam across the tractor. I thought I could have the holes bored o/s & put bushings in but was told it would be cheaper to buy new parts.
