kohler replacement

My Kohler courage 20 just cracked a block, what would be a good replacement engine for it. Really do not want another courage.

I was VERY lucky and picked up a Briggs twin V 21 hp when my courage blew. Same big crack deal in the right side of the block. Ped oil all over the place. There are lots of used ones on flebay or you might hook up with one at a local repair shop. A lot of the big hydro tractors break an axle and they junk the tractor. You might luck out! These Briggs twin v engines are awsume!

Look on flevaay. right now there are a lot of end of model year engines listed. Almost a $200.oo price knock off from list for a brand new engine!!!! Measure you shaft length and width precisely. DO not mess up that measurement. Call the seller to make sure. Here are two I just looked at. 391245325568 391195298170. Can't beat this with a stick. Good luck and get back to us. By the way. Before you install one of these engines check the bolts that hold the top and bottom of the engine together. I think there are 9 or 10. They tend to work loose. I would take every one out and coat it with nail polish. Also you can use lock tite. Don't over do the tighten bit, but that is the only bug these engines have that I have found. Jeffcat GO GETUM!!

Single cylinder?
Where I work we re-power those with single cylinder Briggs and Stratton engines.

You don't say what its mounted on. I just re-powered a Husqvarna tractor from a Courage to a Briggs single cylinder and hooked to the original Husqvarna muffler using a MTD exhaust pipe. Looks like it was always that way.

A lot of the briggs single cylinder engines come with a muffler attached. In a lot of cases you can install the engine and use an exhaust deflector on the muffler to direct the exhaust away to keep it from damaging the hood, or fuel tank if its a zero turn.

Thanks, that is what happened to my motor, had a Husqarna with a Kohler courage 20, this spring started leaking oil all over the place, took it into the shop and the bolts on the top plate were loose, put lock tite on them and started it back up, but still had oil issues, took it back apart and behind the mounts that hold the carb throttle is a crack in the block. Going to buy a new mower but if I can find a reasonably priced motor I would fix this one for my son to use.
