have a jd212 that needs drive belts from engine to variter to trans..should I just use jd or are after markets just as good.i ve been told jd has a special design angle oon their belts.. thank you in advance

My experience is with CASE, COLT and INGERSOLL garden tractors, not Deere. After having been on CCI forums since 1999, I can tell you that the very best quality belts are OEM units from the dealer. They consistently outperform other belts. That is not to say, that there are some excellent belts available in the after-market world. It is of paramount importance that you choose a belt with either KEVLAR or ARAMID construction. These belts will stand up to being twisted while changing from horizontal to vertical positioning as the belt wends its way around the various pulleys found in LT and GT applications. For example, TSC stores carry a BLUE LINE of drive belts with that type of construction but there are other brands. You must ask questions and demand proof of the construction.

Belts without KEVLAR or ARAMID reinforcement will fail very quickly. Cheap belts selling for 10 bucks become very expensive when you have to buy 4 of them to last as long as one 30 dollar OEM belt.

As Tom said, this is one place where OEM is usually better.

Looks like they are about $19 and $25 (There is a serial # break, I didn't look up the earlier ones.) IMHO, NOT out of reason in today's world.

My experience with JD 112 Variator is it's best to use JD Belts, Check the springs while your in there, and make sure the center pulley moves easily on the Shaft. If I ever had to do it again I would replace both springs and both belts. My JD 112 is about a 1972 I think and last summer was the first year these parts were replaced.
