kohler command engine

I have cv750 30hp Kohler command engine in a zero turn mower. It seems to have plenty of power at high rpm,but it won't hardly idle, and idles rough.I replaced the spark plugs, and the left one was a little carbon fouled. If you slow the engine down from high rpm it sometimes does a small backfire, and tries to stall. The throttle does not do anything until about halfway thru it's travel.I understand this engine has hydraulic lifters,so I guess no adjustment, right? And the carb is a 2 barrel with a choke plate, and has some kind of solenoid on it,like a form of fuel injection. And I see no adjustments on the carb, except idle speed. One thing I am going to do next is a compression check, but if that is ok,and I think it will be,what next?On a normal carb I would adjust low speed mixture, but not sure about this one.Dirt in the carb passages, maybe?Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks,Mark

Before I would tare into the carb I would run some Sea Foam mixed in gas through it to see if would clean carb. jets.

Sounds like a simple carb cleaning may be needed. Could be the idle jet or idle circuit is clogged. Seafoam might help but pulling the carb off and cleaning everything including the float assembly (and checking the float level) with Gumout is a good way to make sure. Also, if your fuel line doesn't have a fuel shutoff valve that would be a good idea too. Everytime you park it just turn off the fuel and run it out of gas.

Is the shaft for the butterfly snug in the bushings?
There should be a spring on the throttle actuator to keep it tight to the governor arm.
If the throttle shaft or body bushings are worn you could have a vacuum leak.
Is there a port on the manifold where you could attach a vacuum gauge?
