Non hydrostatic garden tractors?

I have a Case 222 garden tractor that works fine but I really do not like the way it free wheels going down hills. Do all hydrostatic tractors do this? Is there a garden tractor that is non hydrostatic that does not free wheel?

CASE garden tractors are NOT hydrostatic drive. They are hydraulic drive. You need to obtain the Operator's Manual for your 222 so that you understand how to control it while descending steep
grades. Depending on the year, it may be possible to add a Holding Valve to your tractor.

Most other tractors are hydrostatic drive and they do not have a runaway problem because of the difference in the method of drive.. Perhaps for you, the solution would be to just sell the CASE and
find a Cub Cadet, Wheel Horse, John Deere or Craftsman lawn tractor with a hydro in it.

Thanks Tom for clearing up the hydraulic vs hydrostatic issue. I like the Case for its heavy construction and weight as I need the traction at times. Do you know whether the larger Cases, 444, 446 still have the same issue with free wheeling?

In 1986, all Ingersoll tractors came with the holding valve built into the travel/lift valve. Case sold the garden tractor division to Jack Ingersoll in December of 1983, if you did not know. So if you want
to stay with CASE quality, then pick a 444, 446 or 448 built in 1986 or later. Same applies to the 220, 222, 224 and 226 Lo Pro tractors. That is not to say that you can't look for an early Big Wheel
model that has the external holding valve kit mounted to the drive motor They are out there. Some sellers know that their tractor is equipped with that valve while others do not have a clue. Therefore,
you need to investigate before you invest. The holding valve does make a big difference when properties are hilly.

My 446 freewheels also I don't like that and the newer Ingersoll
The engine is mounted different and the attachments from the old
Case will not work the newer Ingersoll but all in all its a great 4 season
Machine I also have an old simplicity 7016 hydro and it does not free
Wheel it also is great 4 season machine but no hydraulic lift on mine
Some of newer than mine simplicity had hydraulic lift and some had
Power steering if
