wheelhorse 520H

Just picked up a toro wheelhorse 520H with 20hp onan engine. Previous owner said it just quit on him so he gave it to me to haul off. Engine runs great, no smoke after setting 2 years, all gauges are clear and work fine. I have 2 questions. 1st, come to find out why it quit, idler pulley on drive belt is off. It is a flat pulley, so it runs on outside of belt, but does it ride on bottom, or top to hold tension? downloaded manuals but it don't show. next,it will not start off key. all grounds and cables are clean, all safety interlocks check ok. I can jump to starter direct and it fires right up. all fuses are good, and can hear relays below battery shelf clicking when I turn key. Any help is appreciated. I know a little about mechanics on it because I had a c165 for years.

Idler goes above belt. The clicking you hear is the hourmeter. Rub some wax on your chrome.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought from my other one but wasn't sure. Believe it or not, my chrome is still perfect after all. I was surprised.

About the no start issue- look at the control stick for the hydro drive- if the factory decal is still there below the stick, it will have a position marked "start". When the control stick is in the neutral gate, you just move the stick so that it is all the way towards the "start" position. This will allow that safety switch to connect and allow it to be started. This is based on my experience with a 518h which is very similar.

On your no key start issue have you traced wire from ignition switch to starter solenoid? Are you sure it's the relay you hear clicking and not the starter solenoid?

Your no-start problem could be in the solenoid, but:

Try wiggling the fuses. Those tractors are notorious for losing electrical contact in the fuse holder. Your no start problem is most likely either there or in a safety interlock switch. The solenoid is on the starter on most, if not all of those models.

That is one model that if it were in my shop I would search out an electrical schematic for it, it is more complicated than most.

P.S. If you need parts, Your Toro dealer will love you if you give him the numbers off the tag under the seat. 520H doesn't tell him much, there were several Wheel Horses that had that number on the hood.
