kohler 12.5s

Thanks to the response I got a couple weeks back regarding the carb on my cub cadet with a kohler I now have it running but it surges badly at higher speeds. On farm tractors I have worked on there is an adjustment for that. If there is none such on this kohler what should my next step be? Would hi test or no alcohol fuel help?
Any comments welcome! thanks.
ps I was referring to a governor adjustment but I know a fuel setting can cause that but sadly there is not one on this model'

Hi-Test helps a LOT. Also use a splash of Star-Tron in the fuel to prevent any ethanol troubles. I run Hi-test in everything and it really helps. If you can adjust the main jet you might want to turn it in or out a little to see if it will smooth out. On the OLDER Kohler engines they have this trouble when there is wear in the throttle linkage. On your newer engine do you have those little plastic pivots where the linkages go together? If they are worn the engine will hunt. Don't know what you have so I kinda threw the bucket out.

I have a 12.5 kohler command and it does have the plastic connections but they seem tight. I think I'll give the high test a try. Some folks recommend using no alcohol only. This engine runs smoothly at low rpm but surges badly at higher rpms.

If feathering in the choke a bit helps any, the carburetor is stopped up somewhere and you need to clean it.

Today I drained the tank and fueled with high test. Starts and runs good but still has the surge problem. The carb was soaked and blowed with a new kit installed. If I hold the gov arm still it does not surge plus it is not a problem at lower rpms. It does not require choke with the high test gas. I am familiar with farm tractor governors but not sure of the internal workings of this thing. Can't tell much from the parts diagram that I have. I once had a sears generator that was prone to surge but a little fuel adjustment would correct it
I'm going to put the mower on and try see how it runs under load. Wish it had a fuel adjustment'
