Hi I have a 682 cub cadet I'm working on. I started it up and drove it in front of the garage. I went to start it back up and now I have no spark while cranking. Is there a way to bypass the ignition wiring to test the coil.

The engine is a Kohler KT17 that uses a "Kettering" ignition system.

The coil does not require an external resistor, so there's nothing to stop you from jumpering full battery voltage to the (+) primary terminal on the coil and seeing if it will start.

(If the engine has been updated to a Magnum 18, it will have self-powered EI, which must NOT be connected to battery voltage!)

Below is a link to the factory shop manual for the KT17, showing the charging and ignition circuits.

light
spark when letting the key return
to the run position,
tells me bad ignition switch.
to test,
use a multimeter set for DC volts.
turn the key to run, you should have
about 12 volts at the + side of the coil.
NOW in the start position you should
have close to the same voltage.
a helper is handy to have when doing this.
thank you. boomer

Thanks guys I figured it out. I ran the jumper and it started right up. It ended up being a bad connection at the seloniod.
