Replacement mower deck for John Deere 317

Hello, I am new to the forums. I purchased a John Deere 317 last year and the deck has been repaired and it must have warped when it was welded, as one of the blades now cuts at an angle when mowing. The deck is in rough condition and I have no idea how I would go about trying to straighten it out again. I really like my 317 but for the life of me I cannot find a replacement deck anywhere. Anyone have any idea where I can find one? I live in Omaha, Nebraska. Thank you!

5 of them on E-Bay right now, if you were to buy the shell only it would probably be shippable and you'd rebuild your deck from there. If that doesn't work find a salvage yard, there's a few around, sometimes at a mower repair place and of course Craig's list is your friend. If you're really looking to spend some coin Mother Deere is around and they like taking your money.

not that much on deere units but took jd 318 in on trade. alot time same series are same decks, they might swap out 350.00 for the whole unit, runs and mows

You might try shimming one side of the spindle cartridge to level it out. If it is very far out, you might need to shim the others to get the same level as the first one. A little time, but very little money involved. Also patience my be required as the first try might not do the trick.

One of the blades may have hit an obstacle and bent the deck near one of the 3 holes that holds the spindle bearing.

Once you take a close look and see where the metal is deformed it's pretty easy to work it back into shape with a medium-sized hammer, using a large hammer on the the other side as a backup/buck.

I've straightened out quite a number of these decks in that manner.

This is not precision work, nor is it for the faint of heart. Get a BF mall, and decently straight 2x4 as a guide, and figure out where the bent place(s) are, then hit the high spot a couple good licks and recheck.

I think I like the big hammer idea best, and of course if you break it it probably needed replacement anyway. I'm assuming you already checked the blades? They bend to!
