ran after sitting a long time, then suddenly died. Runs with gas poured down the intake. Has gas at line filter (gravity flow) & good gas in tank. Seems like a fuel pump is bad. A small black circular object has gasline running in & out to carb with short hose coming up from valve cover. All hoses good. Looks like it might be a fuel pump, and not working? What might be the problem & fix?

It's a vacuum fuel pump and has a diaphragm in it. Is it a plastic or metal fuel pump? The metal fuel pump can be taken apart and rebuilt but the plastic are a throw away pump. Ether pump can be used they are the same one is plastic and throw away and the metal is rebuildable .

remove fuel line on intake side of carb turn engine over do you have fuel coming out. put hose in container to catch fuel!

Good place to start is with the gas flow. It squirts pretty good so watch it. Next step is the fuel shut off solenoid. They can just blow out. Also check for electrical power when you turn the key switch on and off. That little plug should show power. Had a bad switch once. If you unscrew the solenoid and put your finger across to hole, try to start the motor. If it runs you found it. USE A HELPER PERSON!!! There is no need to get hurt or start a fire. Also watch out for that hot muffler. When you put in your new solenoid make sure you do not damage that little rubber tip on the end. Be very careful.

its a plastic pump. Couldn't find a way to open it so assumed it was a throwaway unless a valve is stuck? That seems to be a vacuum hose coming up from the valve cover.
