kohler 12.5 carb

I have a repair kit for my poor running kohler 12.5 in my cub cadet. How do you remove the main jet to replace it? I bought this non running machine for a winter project. I ground the valves, replaced the ignition module and switch. With a shot of ether I can get it to run but it struggles and sounds lean. Choking does help but not completely. I am hoping the carb kit will help but I don't want to wreck something removing the jet. Right now I have it soaking Thanks for any advice.

Be very careful trying to remove that jet. You can break out the bottom of that carb when the pot metal breaks and now you are toast. Try the wiggle with a screw driver trick. Also push down hard with the driver so the whole body of the carb. takes the shock of you trying. Do you really need to change the main jet? If it is not buggered up I would leave it. Now the fuel needle valve and seat, yes change them. When you adjust your float to be dead level with the top held upside down, do NOT push down on the floats to adjust the height!!!! You must use a pair of short nose needle plyers to do it gently. If you push down on the floats you just messed up your needle valve! Bang zoom messed up. It will never stop leaking. Most likely you have water or ethanol corrosion in the pot metal. When you get it all together, Gently screw in both the air mix and fuel mix screws till they just seat. Back out the air mix one full turn and the main jet screw one and 1/8 turn. Good place to start. With the main on some Kohlers you might need to turn it out as much as two + turns. That is why you want to use hi-test as it uses less fuel. Also use Hi-Test gas in my two cycle stuff. It works a whole lot better for sure.

I guess I didn't make clear what I am trying to do. There isn't much to this kit, just a new needle valve and seat. that seat is the part I need to remove. This a very simple carb with no way to adjust fuel flow or to even remove the main jet that I can see. I think that seat is some kind of rubber. The instructions say to press the new one in with a drill bit shank but no mention of how to get the old one out. I hope someone more experienced than me can guide me. Thanks

Click on the link below & download a service/repair manual for your series eng,if you have the correct eng series service manual repair/rebuilding of carb(s) used on that eng will be covered in section 6.

Hi If your asking about the little rubber doughnut seat the official tool is a modified knitting needle you use the hooked end to pull seat out, but I generally just hold the carb body with my hand over the seat area and use a blow gun and blast it out, it comes right out reason for the hand over the seat is to catch the little bugger so you know it came out.

Yes you are correct. I had just worked on my Cub Cadet 108 like two days before and it is a lot older and has a Kohler "K' cast iron engine. Total different engine. What you have is like my cadet 1330 with a Kohler commander engine. Simple as dirt carb and that is what threw you off. Ooopppss! Yup up above entry, just blow out the rubber seat and there is nothing else in there. Use the back end of a drill bit and a dab of vasoline to gently push it in and seat it. The rubber has a flat side and a ridged side. The flat is in and the ridge faces out where the float needle goes. Makes a tapered hole.
