Gravley ZT 1540 Broken Axle

Working on a Gravely home duty ZTR. Trying to find a replacement axle for the left Hydro Gear. The gear assembly is part # 00177300.

I'm not finding a parts break down from Gravely. I do find an upgrade kit for a Toro, part # 115-5039. The parts look right, but not finding any dimensions to compare.

Any ideas? Think this will work before I order it?

Also, what oil does this use? It appears to be heavy gear oil, 90 or 140 weight? It appeared to be filled nearly to the top, is this correct?

Thanks!

Should be a Hydro-Gear part number on a tag on the transaxle. Some manufactures put a Hydro-Gear tag some where on the machine. Usually under or behind the seat. With this number you can get a parts diagram for the transaxle from a couple of different places. Most of the Hydro-Gear transaxle units that style use 20W-50 oil. 2 quarts approximately.

Thanks!

After several hours of internet research, trying to make sense of the model numbers on the tag, verses the new revised numbers, which kept coming up as multiple contradictions...

I found an online service manual, more contradictions...

Then found a customer service number at Hydro-Gear. Actually got to talk to a real, live, English speaking person! Had my part number within seconds!

Part is on it's way!

I know what you mean about the Hydrogear tags. Three different model numbers on some of the newer ones. (One is the OEM part number)

Are you going with a replacement axle or a new assembly? I changed out a couple axles in older residential Toro ZTRs. Messy, but not too bad a job, hardest part is pulling the transaxle and putting it back. The kit Hydrogear had for those Toros used a much larger axle shaft with different bushings.
