Hi ,


I have a neighbors John Deere model 314 to work on . ( See post below ) It has a model K321AQS engine on it !! It says that it doesn't run right . Says that it's in the carb . Carb has been cleaned and rebuilt before but it still does it later ! It has points in it and a friend ( who also works on engines ) also said the it could be in the firing ! Battery will only spin starter but not engage engine, like a stuck solenoid ! Does it even if I boost / jump start it ! Where's the solenoid at on these starters ? What's the adjustments for this carb ? Is it hard to rebuild ? Any tricks / techniques ( special ) ? Special tools ? Anything to look for ? I haven't heard motor run yet because of starter ! I have an idea as to what could be wrong or at least part of the problem - vent hole is open in gas cap . Just a hole there to let rain come right in . Any and all help appreciated . Thanks !!!

Hi there is no solenoid on the starter if the starter is spinning then the bendix gear is not engaging the flywheel ring gear, just remove the starter, its 2 bolts and the power cable and check the gear, most likey the throttle shaft is worn and leaking air around it leaning the mixture the repair is a new throttle shaft and bushing, but the cost of these parts is almost more than a new aftermarket carb, I've installed 4 or more of the aftermarket carb and they work good and they are new.

PS go down and read the posting about the Case 155 problem 50000 it has ;inks to the Kohler manuals and explains how to set the points and timing.

These engines had a push rod to open the points that would wear and not open the points properly, check it. Also it works better to set the points with a light than a feeler gauge. it is more accurate.
