MF8 hydro does not move

I got a MF8 hydro. The tractor has set outside for a long time. The Tecumseh had a hole in the block.
Now I installed a Briiggs 8HP, the tractorwould not move with its own power. It rolls freely, the cable and the lever under the tranny moves as I move the F&R lever.
The lever to desengage the hydro under the seat was stuck, but I unfreezed it.
Is it possible that the lever is in engaged position, but the system is still disengagd inside? Is there an opening to see something?
Any hint on what might be the root cause?

Never worked on a MF8, but worked on a Simplicity once that the actual plunger sticking out the side of the transmission was stuck. The release lever would move back and forth but the plunger stayed in the released position.

Also check your hydro oil. Hope it hasn't leaked out.

The problem was simpler than that. I removed the filler neck and oil was not going trough the very fine filter. I blow it with air, and fill the tranny after removal of the bleed plug and it worked fine right away.
That cub cadet will really be a handy little tractor to mow tight spaces, compare to the Cub 169!

Hey 860. If you have the old engine yet I have a Tecumseh 8hp short block from a MF8 that you could use to get back to original. Few other parts also.
