okay yall, a few weeks ago I posted on here about my case model 155 not cranking. all it does when I hit the push button start is spin over. all the key did was open the circuit and I knew the circuit was open by the GEN light would come on. will the light stopped coming on and the engine stopped cranking. I have replaced the key switch and the coil. and the only thing that has changed is that the GEN light now comes on but I am still not getting spark. what would be the next thing I check?

try running a wire from the plus side of the battery to the plus side of the coil then see if it will start. That bypasses any bad wiring you may have. I have a 446 I bought last Saturday and all the wiring is bad from mice living on top of the engine. .

Jacob, I gotta run and don't have time to type up a long reply right now, but will post these links that may be of help to you.

Your Kohler K-241 uses a typical "Kettering" ignition system and the first link will help you understand how it works.

The next links are to the Kohler factory owner's and service manuals for your engine.

If the first links isn't "live" you will have to copy it and paste it in your browser.

Hope this helps!

The points are hiding under a little doghouse on the side of the engine block not far from the carb.

Remove the cover. Remove the spark plug. Shine a light on the points and watch them while you rotate the engine by hand. If you do not see the points move after spinning the engine over 4 times, then wear and tear on points plunger and/or the points themselves would be the problem. You could remove the points and use one of your wife's fibre nail file boards to file the two points dead flat and perfectly parallel to one another. Then install them and set the point gap to 16 thousands of an inch. A multimeter set on the OHMS scale will verify that the points are opening/closing and passing current. Reconnect the wire from the points to the coil after carefully inspecting the insulation of that wire to make sure it is not grounding out. Put the spark plug back in and install the plug wire. Check for spark.
