Cub Cadet Hydraulic Pump Question

The older Cub Cadets (Mid- 1960's) had an optional hydraulic pump that hung off to the side and ran via a belt to operate the implement lift in lieu of the standard manual lift. I have seen them, but have never used or owned one.

I know where one may be available for sale. How well did they work?
If I find one and it needs work, are they repairable or rebuildable?
Are parts available?
What is a reasonable price to pay for one?
Any thing I should look out for or avoid?

Thanks

I have a Cub 125 with the hydraulic lift. It works great for handling large and small implements. (Disc Harrow and 42-inch mower deck.)

I am not sure about the spare parts. I checked on Partstree.com for a gasket set and they were not available.

I've seen the complete lift on sale on eBay for ~$300.

Hope this helps

They work great! That is a Hein Werner built pump. I have been looking for a pump gear for mine since last October, no luck yet. There is a control lever return spring inside the oil reservoir that can and does break, that broken wire can get into the pump and break a pump gear. It is a simple repair if you can get the parts.

We have a highly optioned 124 with one and as said they work great, actually much overkill for what they are asked to do. Unless they are damaged by the mentioned spring pieces or by being run dry all you need to do to them is replace seals, orings and gaskets to fix leaks. The actuator levers were a bit fragile and break at the pivot but after market levers are available.

$300 huh? I haven't been keeping up with the times. Not so long ago they would pull $500 all day long. I have a spare set up but saving it for a special project.

Thanks for the replies.

So, if I get one with good pump gears and the control lever return spring isn't broken, I should be OK.

When I look it over, how can I tell whether the spring is broken or not? Is it apparent when you move the lever?

If the spring is OK the lever will return to center when pushed or pulled. It is good habit to replace it no matter what, it isnt hard to do or expensive.
